A Letter From Our Chair
A personal letter about the state of the convention.
Thank you for your patience while we have been discussing how to run our convention this year in light of COVID-19 and the current restrictions and regulations that have been put in place. Here is an official statement from our Convention Chair regarding the plan for Castle Point Anime Convention (CPあC) 2021.
After much consideration, we have decided to cancel CPあC 2021 as an in-person event at the Meadowlands Exposition Center, and instead move our convention online. Virtual CPあC will be a free event held on May 1-2, 2021 on Discord with the potential of other platforms such as Twitch. We plan to host virtual panels, gaming tournaments, cosplay events such as the Cosplay Masquerade and Cosplay Runway, and like last year, a virtual vendors’ hall. More details regarding the virtual convention will be announced in the near future. However, if you are interested in attending, please register for the event through our website.
Currently, there is an indefinite ban on large gatherings of 150 people or 25% of the venue capacity in the state of New Jersey. Since our event gathers around 2,000 attendees per day, we would not be able to open our event to the general public, even if we were to take all the necessary health and safety precautions. Because of the uncertainty in these circumstances, we have decided to focus our efforts into providing our attendees with a safe, high-quality, virtual event and bring as many features that everyone loves about CPあC as possible.
We are just as disappointed as you are to have to share this news, since it will be the second year in a row without holding an in-person CPあC. We all miss the experience of seeing wonderful cosplays, attending entertaining panels, and splurging money in the Dealer’s Room and Artist Alley. However, we will do our best to deliver these experiences to you in a virtual environment.
Pre-registered attendees’ memberships for CPあC 2021 will be transitioned to CPあC 2022, set for April 30 – May 1, 2022 by default. Since Castle Point Anime Convention is run entirely by student volunteers under a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all revenue goes back into the operational costs of the convention. Those who accept transitioning their tickets to 2022 help us to remain financially stable and cover the expenses of this year’s convention and future conventions. Anyone who would like to receive a refund for their CPあC 2021 or 2020 ticket can request one through our Eventbrite page. Please allow at least 1-2 weeks for processing a refund request.
All vendors of CPあC 2021’s Artist Alley and Dealer’s Room have been contacted to review a similar option – they can confirm their spot in our 2022 event or receive a full refund. If you have any other questions, you can check out our Virtual Con FAQ page or feel free to comment or send us a message directly. We will also be posting more updates about the virtual convention on our social media, so make sure to follow us to stay updated!
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support during this time. As a student-run organization, we dedicate all our success to you, our attendees and our committed student volunteers and staff. Again, we are sad to share this news, but we hope that you all join us for virtual CPあC 2021!
