Castle Point Anime Convention

Castle Point Anime Convention 2020 is cancelled: an announcement from the Convention Chair

Thank you for everyone’s patience while we have processed the latest information about the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Here is the official statement from our Convention Chair regarding the latest developments.

As you may be aware, Governor Phil Murphy recently announced a ban on all gatherings of 50 people or more in New Jersey. Because this ban is set with no current end date and Castle Point Anime Convention (CPあC) 2020 is scheduled for about six weeks from now, it is likely this ban will still be in place. Given the uncertainty around these new circumstances, we have no choice but to cancel CPあC this year. As an organization, we will be transitioning our focus to CPあC which will take place on May 1-2, 2021.

This decision was not easy to make, and we realize the significant impact they will have on our community. We are all deeply saddened to have to announce this news, after working all year long to prepare many exciting and special guests and events this year. However, given the challenging times and first and foremost, the safety and health of our attendees, staff, guests, exhibitors, as well as their own families, we felt it was important to make this decision sooner rather than later.

While we strive to be professional in every way, we are a student-run anime convention, composed of students at Stevens Institute of Technology plus alumni as our advisors. Forty to fifty of us meet weekly on campus and plan the convention together. With campus closed indefinitely and classes made online for the rest of the semester, it would not only be difficult for us to meet, but also unsafe to continue as planned.

We did review the possibility of postponing the 2020 convention for later in the year. After careful consideration, we came to the decision that it would not be feasible for us to have CPあC at any other time in the year.

For our pre-registered attendees, by default we will be transitioning your memberships to CPあC 2021, set for May 1-2, 2021. Castle Point Anime Convention is entirely run by student volunteers under a 501©(3) non-profit organization and all revenue goes back into the operational costs of our convention. Those who allow us to transition their ticket to 2021 help us remain financially stable and cover expenses we already incurred for 2020.

We understand that not everyone is certain they will be able to attend CPあC 2021. Anyone who would prefer to be refunded for their 2020 ticket can request a refund through our Eventbrite page. Please allow at least 1 - 2 weeks for processing of refund requests, based on the volume of requests.

All participants of the 2020 Artists’ Alley and Dealer’s Room have been contacted to review a similar option – confirm their spot in our 2021 event or recieve a full refund. Accepted panelists will automatically be considered without application for next year’s event, and we will be working to re-sign many of the vendors and guests we had planned for this year. Volunteers and staff have also been contacted with more details regarding our plan of action during the summer and how we will transition all planning and efforts towards the 2021 event.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while we worked to figure out our plan of action. As a student-run event we owe our success to all of you (our attendees) and to our dedicated student volunteers and staff. Once again, we are really sad to share this news, but know that all of us will bounce back from this stronger than ever for an even more exciting event next year.

We hope you and your loved ones can stay safe and healthy during this tumultuous time, and hope to see you at the next Castle Point Anime Convention on May 1-2, 2021.
